If you follow me on Instagram you saw I made my favorite blueberry muffins recently. I loved having these muffins for breakfast so I thought it’s time for a new blueberry bread recipe. I’m a big fan of lemon and blueberry flavor so I made this lemon blueberry poppy seed bread. To make it even better I added an orange vanilla glaze to the top of the bread. Cory and I both LOVED this combination of lemon, blueberry, orange and vanilla flavors. Scroll down to get the recipe for this lemon blueberry poppy seed bread with an orange vanilla glaze.

Lemon Blueberry Poppy Seed Bread
If you love the traditional lemon poppy seed bread you’re going to love this recipe. I basically just elevated that classic recipe by adding blueberries. I added frozen Michigan blueberries that I had on hand, but you can also add fresh blueberries to this recipe. Just made sure to gently fold the blueberries in at the end so they don’t open and make the batter turn purple. You can also lightly coat the blueberries in flour to prevent them sinking to the bottom of the bread.

Lemon Blueberry Poppy Seed Bread + Orange Vanilla Glaze
Ingredients
Bread
- 1/2 cup Butter at room temperature
- 1 cup Sugar
- 3 Eggs at room temperature
- Lemon Zest from 1 lemon
- 2 cups All Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 2 tbsp Poppy Seeds
- 1/2 cup Milk
- Lemon Juice from 1 lemon
- 1 1/4 cups Blueberries
Glaze
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1/8 cup Orange Juice
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare your loaf pan by greasing the bottom and sides of the pan.
- In a large bowl beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar. Beat together until fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time to the butter and sugar mixture.
- Add the lemon zest to the butter mixture and beat to combine.
- Combine the dry ingredients in a medium bowl including the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and poppy seeds. Set aside.
- Combine the milk and lemon juice together in a mixing glass. Set aside.
- Add a little of the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix together. Alternate with the milk/lemon juice and the dry ingredients until everything is mixed together.
- Fold in the blueberries to the batter.
- Add the batter to the prepared loaf pan and bake for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
- For the glaze mix together the powdered sugar, orange juice and vanilla extract. Add to the top of the bread while the bread is still slightly warm.
Orange Vanilla Glaze
The orange vanilla glaze is optional for this bread, but I would highly recommend it. I just combined powdered sugar, orange juice and vanilla extract. If you don’t have orange juice on hand you could also do this with lemon juice to get more of that lemon flavor. The consistency should be pretty thick, but not too thick that it doesn’t run off the spoon. You want to get those glaze lines from gently pouring it on the bread while still slightly warm.
