Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies
I’ve shared quite a few recipes for Valentine’s Day, but these rank at the top for my favorite. I love a good sugar cookie with frosting and sprinkles. I mean who doesn’t?! These cookies are easy to make, but they take a little bit of time to assemble since the dough needs to be chilled. You can always make this recipe the day before and have it ready to go with your cookie cutters and decorations
Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup Salted Butter
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1 Egg at room temperature
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 1/4 cup Flour
- 3/4 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
- In a large bowl cream together the butter and sugar with a stand mixer or hand mixer.
- Add the egg and vanilla to the butter mixture and beat together.
- In a medium bowl add the flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Stir to combine.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients a little at a time. Stir together until the dough forms.
- Put the dough in a ball and cover in wax paper or cling wrap. Allow the dough to chill in the refrigerator for around 2 hours.
- Roll out the dough and use your favorite Valentine's Day cookie cutters. I used a variety of heart shaped cookie cutters.
- Place the cookies on a baking sheet and bake for 5-8 minutes or until the cookies are slightly brown around the edges.
- Allow the cookies to cool on a baking rack.
- Once the cookies have cooled you can decorate them with icing. I used store bought icing and Valentine's Day sprinkles to decorate my cookies.
Speaking of cookie cutters I used a variety of heart shapes for these cookies. The ones I have are sold out, but these cookie cutters are very similar. I like using a variety of shapes and sizes when I’m making these sugar cookies.
When your cookies have cooled you can start frosting and decorating your cookies. I used a store bought frosting like this one for these cookies. You can make your own frosting if you prefer (sometimes I like making royal icing for sugar cookies). Get creative with your decorations and use a variety of sprinkles or candy to decorate the cookies. Have fun!
