Chocolate chip banana bread? Yes please! To be honest we love a good classic banana bread around here. Forget the chocolate chips, walnuts or any other ingredients to distract from the banana bread. But, I finally convinced Cory we need to try adding chocolate chips to our banana bread. It’s safe to say we’re both hooked on this perfect combination of chocolate and bananas. Trust me this banana bread is so delicious for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe
The best part of this banana bread are the mini chocolate chips. I love these chocolate chips from Ghiradelli that taste amazing in this recipe or chocolate chip cookies. You can totally use regular chocolate chips or even milk chocolate chips for this recipe.

One of my favorite things to do with banana bread is sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top of the batter before putting it in the oven. I love the crisp and sweet crust on top of the bread. This is obviously optional to add on top of your banana bread, but I would highly suggest trying it.
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Butter softened
- 1 1/4 cup Sugar
- 2 Eggs at room temperature
- 2 Bananas medium-large sized
- 1/4 cup Buttermilk
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 3/4 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 3/4 cup Mini Chocolate Chips
- Cinnamon Sugar (for the topping) optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Greese your 9×5 loaf pan really well to ensure the bread doesn't stick. You could also flour the pan or put parchment paper on the bottom of the pan.
- In a medium sized bowl mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Set this bowl aside.
- In a large bowl beat together the butter and the sugar. Beat these ingredients until light and fluffy. Add your eggs one at a time to make sure they incorporate well in the batter.
- Beat in the mashed banana, buttermilk and vanilla extract to the egg/butter/sugar mixture.
- Take your dry ingredients and fold it into the wet ingredients. I do a little at a time to make sure everything is incorporated. Once everything is mixed together (don't overmix), fold in the mini chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into your prepared pan. Bake the bread for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the bread comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool.
Before baking this banana bread I would highly suggest leaving your butter and eggs on the counter for a few hours so they come to room temperature. This is a key step with baking to make sure your ingredients are at room temperature, so don’t skip this step. If you’re afraid of your banana bread sticking to the pan while baking you could also flour the baking pan. I typically just use baking spray, but even parchment paper on the bottom of the pan would work great.
