Today I’m sharing a recipe for brown butter banana bread that seriously takes banana bread to the next level. The nutty, caramel flavor from the brown butter is life changing in this banana bread. Tips for Making Brown Butter
If you haven’t made brown butter before take note on some of these tips. Brown butter can really elevate your typical recipes with a nutty, caramel depth of flavor. I need to share my recipe for brown butter rice krispie treats, and the pasta I made last night with brown butter. I just want to stress that brown butter can go from light brown to burnt really quick. While you’re melting the butter don’t walk away from the stove and start doing another task. Stay at the stove, stir with a heat resistant spatula and keep your eye on the butter. Once you can smell the brown butter and see little brown flecks remove it from the heat immediately. Brown Butter Banana Bread Recipe
Here’s the recipe for the brown butter banana bread! Both Cory and I can’t get enough of this bread right now. I really think this recipe is a keeper, and the depth of flavor can’t be beat. If you’re looking for something different when it comes to banana bread you have to try this.
Brown Butter Banana Bread
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup Butter salted or unsalted is fine
- 3-4 Ripe Bananas 4 small bananas or 3 large bananas
- 1/2 cup Light Brown Sugar
- 1 Large Egg
- 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp Nutmeg
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1/2 cup Chopped Walnuts Optional
- Cinnamon Sugar Optional to sprinkle on top
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray your bread pan with cooking spray or grease it with butter. Make sure you grease the pan well so the bread doesn't stick!
- In a small skillet pan melt your butter. Keep it on a low/medium heat and let it start bubbling. Stir the butter consistantly to keep it from burning. Once you see little brown flecks appear and can smell the brown butter remove it from the heat. Brown butter can burn very easily so be careful not to keep it on the heat for too long. Let the brown butter cool for a 5-10 minutes.
- Mash your bananas on a plate or in a medium sized bowl. Make sure to mash the bananas well.
- In the medium sized bowl, add the bananas, brown butter and light brown sugar. Whisk these ingredients together until they are combined.
- Add the egg and vanilla to the banana mixture and mix well.
- Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda and salt to this banana mixture. Whisk until combined.
- Add your flour 1/2 cup at a time to this mixture and stir with a spoon. Mix together until well combined, but don't overmix.
- Pour the batter into your prepared bread pan. Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool slightly before removing it from the pan and allowing to cool on a wire rack.
